The organization behind this initiative is the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada who have their central offices in Mississauga, Ontario. The William Cornelius Vocational Training Centre is just one of the many humanitarian outreach projects that are sponsored by the P.A.O.C.'s NGO: (non profit/none governmental organization) known as E.R.D.O. (Emergency and Relief Development Overseas). E.R.D.O. has been working to establish schools, orphanages and other types of child support centres in many of our world's developing countries, with such projects as Child Care Plus and the Canadian Food Grains Bank.

The W.C.V.T.C. is a natural extension of the Child Care Plus outreach in Guatemala. For over fifteen years now, the C.C.P. effort has linked arms with the Assemblies of God, Latin America Child Care system, in order to help 15 Guatemalan grade schools through monthly sponsorships from the U.S.A. and Canada.

We have just gone through the very exciting experience of opening the school with a great dedication and celebration service which was held on the 13th January 2007. The actual opening day for the school was on the 15th January 2007 when we had the pleasure, after so many years of preparation, of welcoming our new student body to come and begin receiving their higher education at the William Cornelius Vocational Training Centre.

We have a full compliment of teachers who are well qualified in their fields. The specialization that we commenced with is computation. This is a three year course covering the 'how to use', maintain, build and programme. Our plan is to increase the specializations by two each year, making more options available as we gradually increase our ability to carry more subjects.

The career course we are planning to offer are:

  • Dental Hygiene and Assistant

  • Computation Plus

  • Dental Technologies

  • Industrial Engineering (Machine Shop Technology)

  • Industrial Engineering (Welding Technology)

  • Engineering Drawing

  • Engine Overhaul & Reconditioning

  • Reforestation Technologies

We do realize that only as the nation's needs become apparent in the years to come, will we be able to clearly decide any new areas that we will add to this urgent list of skills waiting to be filled.

As with all such foreign aid and assistance, we desire to eventually work our way out of a job. As we are able, we will hire Guatemalan personnel. Having said that, we do invite any qualified persons to consider becoming part of our expatriate team, helping us establish a strong and healthy centre of education. We are of course a Christian organization so it is necessary for any interested party to successfully pass through our application process in advance of taking up a position here.
